Project Details

Project Summary:
  • Salt Cavern with 24 Bcf working gas capacity (3 caverns of just over 8 Bcf each) in Initial Phase with start-up of capacity (dual cavern leaching) in 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018
  • Injection capacity of 900 MMCFD and withdrawal capacity of 1,525 MMCFD into the following interstate pipelines:
    • Southeast Supply Header/Sonat
    • Mid-Continent Express
    • Gulf South/Gulf Crossing
    • Columbia Gulf
  • Designed as 6-turn service
  • Market Based Rate Structure
Project Status:
  • Received FERC Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity as a market based rate facility pursuant to Docket CP10-494 on 3/18/2011
  • No opposition, no material environmental, historic preservation or endangered species concerns
  • All necessary permit applications filed with state and federal agencies. The project has received all necessary Federal authorizations.
  • 3-D seismic over dome and adjacent lands was purchased and processed to provide full mapping of salt dome structure
  • Brine disposal test well completed to Wilcox formation indicating significant high perm and porosity sands.
  • Salt core well drilled and confirmed top of salt consistent with 3-D. Cores obtained from 3,000 ft-5,000 feet. Geological, geomechanical and chemical laboratory testing was performed by Sandia Laboratories and subsequent results support the development of storage caverns.
  • Adequate raw water available from the Mississippi River Alluvial Aquifer
